INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES Warm up/Technique 1. Identify all simple and complex patterns using duple, triple and common meters 2. Demonstrate ability to perform all major and minor scales. 3. Demonstrate ability to perform arpeggios in the tonic and dominant related to a given scale. 4. Demonstrate the ability to identify pitch by sight and sound with the ability to sing the pitch. 5. Demonstrate ability to identify by sight and sound intervals of a third, fourth and fifth 6. Demonstrate ability to tune their instrument. 7. Demonstrate ability to perform with correct posture and playing position. 8. Demonstrate ability to attack notes with the proper articulation for either brass and woodwind instrument. 9. Demonstrate an ability to sight read music and to identify note values such as eigths, quarters, halves and whole notes. 10. Demonstrate ability to perform with acceptable intonation. 11. Demonstrate ability and understanding of developing kinetic and dexterity skills through learning new fingering(s), slide position(s) and drumstick technique. |
PROCEDURES Warm up/Technique a. Students will read parts from the printed page. b. Students will recognize and understand rudimentary vocabulary and symbols.For example, clefs, flats, sharps, repeats, 1 st and 2 nd endings etc. c. Students will perform all melodic notation d. Students will perform all rhythmic notation. e. Students will recognize and perform all dynamic markings and tempo directions f. Students will play in tune with self and others. g. Students will demonstrate the ability, and responsibility, of playing as part of the full ensemble, relative to techniques of balance and blend. h. Students will interpret and follow the conducting patterns used by teacher/conductor. i. Students will demonstrate of phrasing, tone production, and artistic awareness. j. Students will learn new fingering(s), slide position(s) and drumstick technique demonstrated in method book. |

CONCERT LITERATURE Procedures a. Students will highlight expression markings in music, repeats excerpt until it is mastered. b. The teacher may sing, perform, or play recording to demonstrate style. c. Students will associate how music is classified through lecture, reading assignment, or by listening to recording. d. The teacher records the ensemble performing, students critique the performance. e. The teacher may interject relative topics concerning how musical excerpt relates to other disciplines.
