HOME PRACTICE ROUTINE

INSTRUMENTAL STUDENTS

Grades 5 thru 8 

All students are to devote 20 minutes of practice time per week Monday thru Friday on instrument this adds up to 100 minutes of practice time. If the student is able to practice on the weekend the success and ability to play their instrument will improve faster.

WARM UP

• Review each fingering without playing and then play the note.
• Know how to read the notes on the staff.
• Know your notes values so that you can count the beat(s) effectively.

OBJECTIVE

To improve:

• Tone
• Technique
• Sight Reading

ASSIGNMENT

• Analyze your own sound to improve your tone quality.
• Practice to increase technical ability and confidence on your instrument.  

HOMEWORK

Practice your music every night with focus on continued progress and success on your instrument.

INSTRUMENTAL/BAND EXPECTATIONS
AND
GRADING POLICY FOR GRADES 5 thru 8

All students will begin each marking period with 95 points. This point total will be adjusted up or down throughout the marking period as the student's strive to meet the expectations listed below. The student's grade will be the number of points attained by the conclusion of the marking period.

In order to maintain a grade of 95 points or more, a student must meet the following expectations at every music class:

• Student will practice 20 minutes at home every evening Monday thru Friday
• Student will bring their music, music folder and instrument.
• Student will have sharpened pencil with eraser.
• Student will care for their music (no tearing, folding, curling or marking in ink) and instrument.
• Student will engage in proper playing posture.
• Student will not chew gum or eat candy.
• Student will talk only when called on.
• Student will conform to the performance dress code. (See below.)
• Student will attend dress rehearsal and concert. (See below.)
